Website care or monthly SEO: what are you paying for?
Compare website maintenance and SEO by the problem, agreed task and verification. Includes a decision worksheet, current studio plan references and an owned change record.
Start with the problem, not the subscription
Website care keeps an agreed website and its existing tools dependable: correct supplied details, check important paths and record unresolved issues. Search work asks whether the right page answers a useful customer question, then improves that answer and checks what changed. A broken contact link can affect both, but it is still one correction.
Neither label tells you how much implementation is included. Ask which site, systems, tasks and checks the agreement covers. A supported website with occasional updates may need care; a site with a specific content gap may need a finite improvement or a plan with an agreed search priority. A retainer is optional.
Compare tasks you can inspect
| Question | Care task | Search or content task |
|---|---|---|
| Are the details correct? | Publish approved hours, contact details or links in existing components. | Check whether the service explanation answers the intended customer question. |
| What is being checked? | The covered site, form and known workflow, with dates and access limits. | The selected page, intent, factual copy and relevant search evidence when available. |
| What marks completion? | The agreed correction works, affected paths are checked and unresolved issues are recorded. | The approved page change and links are verified. Traffic or inquiry effects remain a separate observation. |
| What is not implied? | Unlimited changes, unsupported-system repair or continuous human monitoring. | Unlimited articles, link quotas, rankings or AI-search inclusion. |
Three situations, three useful next steps
If you do not yet know what is failing, a finite audit and agreed fixes can establish a baseline and finish a bounded correction. It need not become a subscription. Use the audit checklist to describe the problem before choosing.
An actual owned content change
Read the dated studio example and its limits
On October 15, 2026, our studio package comparison changed from two broad descriptions to three explicit scopes. The tier-specific editing and functional-tool decision moved ahead of the offers; the comparison links to the editing guide and named inquiry choices.
Inspect the current package comparison and dated owned change record. This establishes an implemented content change on our own website. It does not establish a paid client cycle, independent buyer acceptance or an increase in search traffic or inquiries.
The downloadable decision worksheet keeps this observation separate from the two fictional scenarios. Add your problem, available evidence, maintenance task, search/content task, owner, approved cycle and verification before requesting a quote.
How the studio plans divide the work
Our monthly plans combine covered care with different amounts of advice and implementation. Search work is an agreed use of the available units; it is not a second unlimited allowance.
| Plan / monthly service price | Included work units | Research focus |
|---|---|---|
| Keep Running / $150 | 1 related small-change batch; no priority unit per month. | Diagnostic search and indexing checks where access is available; no recurring keyword campaign. |
| Improve / $400 | 1 related small-change batch and 1 agreed priority per month. | Monthly opportunity skim and one focused keyword-cluster review each quarter. |
| Grow / $800 | 1 related small-change batch and 2 agreed sequential priorities per month. | Focused monthly keyword and competitor research, with an explicit page/query strategy decision. |
Approved static websites, supported managed CMS sites and defined workflows after account, permissions, provider and compatibility review. Covered accounts/checks and operating responsibilities are written into the plan. Unknown legacy applications, arbitrary WordPress plugin stacks and complex systems require separate assessment.
One queue serves the site. The same change cannot fulfill two units, and defects caused by our work do not consume a paid allowance. Before a paid improvement cycle, agree useful work and ready inputs. If none is agreed, pause the next monthly invoice or reconcile the unused prepaid annual cycle. Accepted work delayed by us remains owed. See the care scope and coverage and search implementation approach.
Keep the service fee separate from provider bills
An existing-site baseline is $399 once, waived after a usable paid studio build or Audit & Fix Sprint. Do not pay for the same usable baseline twice. Hosting, domains, CMS and other provider charges are separately approved and paid directly. Monthly studio service is optional.
Bundled launch reviews and articles remain owed; a concurrent plan must cover distinct work or explicitly credit overlapping delivery. Provider bills are added once.
Annual prepayment discounts service fees by 5% for 12 cycles, with the same monthly units. The monthly equivalent is not a monthly charge, and another annual payment requires written confirmation. Compare exact prices and provider costs, annual refunds and exit terms before choosing.
Ask what the next receipt will contain
- What exact problem and affected page or tool are we agreeing to change?
- Is this a small-change batch, one priority or a separately scoped project?
- Which systems, accounts and provider costs are included?
- Who supplies the facts, approves the work and owns the accounts?
- Which test establishes completion, and which result still needs observation?
- What happens if access is missing, no useful work is ready or the accepted task is delayed?
A useful receipt records the URL, date, approved task, checks, unresolved dependency and next decision. Read the reporting guide to distinguish implementation evidence from measured effects.
